Wij geven: gratis woonruimte

Per 1 september zijn wij op zoek naar een nieuwe inwonende beheerder voor ons opvanghuis Imani. Imani is een woonhuis in het zuiden van Leiden waar wij als Diaconaal Centrum met 4 gastenkamers mensen opvangen. Op de zolderverdieping woont de beheerder, die hier in ruil voor zijn inzet gratis mag verblijven.

In Imani vangen we mensen op die acuut een dak boven hun hoofd nodig hebben. In de meeste gevallen tussen de 3-6 maanden. Dit kan gaan om mensen die wachten tot ze via de gemeente opgevangen kunnen worden, ongedocumenteerden, mensen die vluchten voor huiselijk geweld, etc. De beslissing over wie wordt opgevangen en de begeleiding van deze mensen ligt bij Diaconaal Centrum De Bakkerij.

Als beheerder hou jij een oogje in het zeil in het huis.  Je bent het aanspreekpunt voor bewoners en de buren en laat het ons weten als er problemen zijn – zowel op sociaal vlak als fysieke dingen in het huis.  Je voert (of signaleert) kleine reparaties uit en ziet erop toe dat de huisregels nageleefd worden. Je hoeft geen sociaal werker te zijn en vervult geen rol in de maatschappelijke begeleiding van de bewoners. Wel moedigen we initiatieven die de sociale cohesie in huis bevorderen aan. Je verwelkomt nieuwe bewoners, legt hen de huisregels uit, spreekt hen aan bij het niet schoonhouden of nakomen van de huisregels, overlast of onderlinge spanning en brengt na vertrek van een bewoner hun kamer op orde om weer een nieuwe gast te kunnen ontvangen.

Als beheerder heb je goede sociale voelsprieten voor de sfeer in het huis, de onderlinge dynamiek en de relatie met de buren. Hierin word je ondersteund door De Bakkerij, wiens professionals voor je klaar staan om te overleggen. Je staat stevig in je schoenen en weet je grenzen aan te geven. Je kan goed werken in een interculturele omgeving en communiceert duidelijk. Je bent kalm en vriendelijk, en kan begrip opbrengen voor de moeilijke situaties waar onze bewoners soms in verkeren. Je hebt verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel maar kunt ook aangeven wanneer het jou te veel wordt en wanneer wij als professionals in moeten springen.

Je taken kunnen zich elk moment van de dag afspelen, op de momenten dat je thuis bent en in whatsappverkeer met de bewoners. De hoeveelheid tijd die je eraan kwijt bent hangt af van de situatie in huis en hoeveel wisselingen in de bewoners er zijn, maar over het algemeen is het enkele uren per week. Eerdere beheerders combineerden hun taken met studie, werk en hobby’s.

In ruil hiervoor bieden wij jou een gratis woonplek op de gemeubileerde zolderverdieping van ongeveer 18 m2. De keuken, badkamer, woonkamer en tuin deel je met de bewoners. Kosten die gemaakt worden ten behoeve van het huis kunnen uiteraard bij ons gedeclareerd worden. We vragen commitment van tenminste 2 jaar.

Wanted: a live-in house manager
We offer: free living

As of September 1st, we are looking for a new live-in manager for our shelter, Imani. Imani is a residential house in the south of Leiden where we, as a Diaconal Center, provide shelter to people in 4 guest rooms. The manager lives on the attic floor and is allowed to stay there free of charge in exchange for their efforts.

At Imani, we shelter people who are in urgent need of a roof over their heads. In most cases, this is for between 3 and 6 months. This may involve people waiting to be accommodated through the municipality, undocumented individuals, people fleeing domestic violence, etc. The decision regarding who is sheltered and the support provided to these people lies with Diaconal Center De Bakkerij.

As manager, you keep an eye on things in the house. You are the point of contact for residents and neighbors and let us know if there are any problems—both social and physical issues in the house. You carry out (or identify) minor repairs and ensure that the house rules are adhered to. You do not need to be a social worker, nor do you play a role in the social support of the residents. However, we do encourage initiatives that promote social cohesion within the house. You welcome new residents, explain the house rules to them, address them regarding failure to keep things clean or adhere to house rules, nuisance, or interpersonal tension, and tidy up a resident’s room after their departure to accommodate a new guest.

As a manager, you have a keen social antennae for the atmosphere in the house, the dynamics within the group, and the relationship with the neighbors. You are supported in this by De Bakkerij, whose professionals are available to consult with you. You are confident and know how to set boundaries. You can work well in an intercultural environment and communicate clearly. You are calm and friendly, and can show understanding for the difficult situations our residents sometimes find themselves in. You have a sense of responsibility but can also indicate when things become too much for you and when we, as professionals, need to step in. Your tasks can take place at any time of the day, when you are at home, and via WhatsApp with the residents. The amount of time you spend on this depends on the situation in the house and the turnover of residents, but generally, it is a few hours per week. Previous managers combined their duties with studies, work, and hobbies.

In return, we offer you a free living space on the furnished attic floor of approximately 18 m². You share the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and garden with the residents. Expenses incurred for the benefit of the house can, of course, be reimbursed by us. We ask for a commitment of at least 2 years.
